Supporting the next phase of motor replacement – end of life.
Much of Future Motors’ work has traditionally been driven by energy reduction. However, a new programme is now focusing on another growing challenge: replacing ageing motors as they reach the end of their operational life.
A county council in the South West has identified its first priority site, with a second location expected to follow. The work will involve replacing older EC fan units with direct-drive conversions, helping to maintain reliable operation while introducing more modern motor technology.
Although EC fans are already considered relatively efficient, results from a previous installation demonstrated that further improvements are still possible, with energy savings of 28% achieved.
For this programme, however, the decision is not being led primarily by return on investment. The existing motors need to be replaced due to their age and condition, creating an opportunity to select a more efficient and dependable solution as part of the planned replacement work.
The programme is expected to extend across the organisation’s wider estate, with older EC fan units assessed and replaced progressively as they approach the end of their working life.
